Sundari Jall Tharepati Helambu Village Trek
Helambu is about 72 kilometers north-east of Kathmandu, and is famous for its scenic grandeur and pleasant climate. The Helambu region extends from north of Taramarang to the tree limit of the Gosainkunda Lake to the lower slopes of Jugal Himal. The trek goes through several highland Tamang and Sherpa villages which are scattered on both sides of the Malemchi Khola.
Helambu village trek - 8 days
This is an ideal trip for those who have a short time yet would like to experience diverse culture as well as spectacular scenery. The trek is relatively easy, yet often up and down. The highlight is when we arrive at Tharepati where we have dramatic panoramic views of the well known and loved mountains: Gaurisankar (7134m) Langtang (7245m), Ganesh Himal (7405m), Dorje Lhakpa (6990m) Sisapama (8,013m) as well as other small mountains. The warm and friendly people of Helambu are mostly Buddhists and Sherpas of Solukhumbu – seen by their language, culture and dress. The Tamang villages are culturally rich with Buddhist Gompas and family shrines.
Your trekking preparation:
This trek is a non-technical trek. If you are moderately fit and have a sense of adventure you will easily enjoy this trek. The program is designed to acclimatize you gradually and you will probably not experience any high altitude sickness – our highest altitude is 3,500 – however you are requested to check your altitude fitness and the itinerary. We suggest you to strengthen your knee muscles in order to prepare for several days of steep descents. Some physical fitness programs such as running, swimming, biking or aerobics is recommended, but mostly hiking on steep hills or running up and down steps are suitable.
This program is organized to encompass the most interesting scenes and village life. However, the program is flexible and can be changed before or during the trek. We request you to be flexible with the situation to enjoy yourself. All lodging and food are arranged in the simple lodges. Our professional mountain guides and porters can handle everything, going ahead to book the lodges (most with hot/cold shower).
